Over the years, Hendrick Motorsports has given NASCAR some of the best racers in the sport and the world. From Jimmie Johnson to Jeff Gordon, the list of accomplished star racers of HMS is big. Kyle Larson is the most recent phenom of Rick Hendrick‘s team. The 2021 Cup champion is considered the biggest talent of his generation.
The 31-year-old racer is known for his prowess, which he has proven in various racing series. But his love for racing outside NASCAR has supposedly created a notion among the fans that Larson doesn’t like racing NASCAR and that he is doing it just for the money. The No:5 Chevy driver has addressed this absurd theory.
Recently, talking with Kenny Wallace for the ex-NASCAR racers YouTube show, Larson revealed that he might retire before age 40 for premier dirt racing. But in the same interview, he highlighted how his words might get misinterpreted. He claims that he isn’t retiring because he hates NASCAR, as some fans think.
I don’t want people to get spun out about it. I’m not saying I’m retiring at 30-whatever. I love racing in NASCAR. I would not be racing in NASCAR if I didn’t love it. I think a lot of race fans feel that I don’t like racing in NASCAR, and I’m just doing it to make money, and then I’m going to retire and all that.Larson said via Kenny Conversations (H&T: Heavy.com)
Kyle Larson says he might race till 50 In NASCAR
Larson went on to explain his loyalty to NASCAR further. He pointed out that if he isn’t in love with the sport as some fans claim, there is no reason for him to compete for wins with the best team on the grid. He proclaimed his love for the sport and said that he might retire in eight years or might race for two decades more, as nothing in life is constant.
I would have done that a long time ago. If I didn’t love what I’m doing and love racing in NASCAR and competing for wins and racing for the best team in the sport. I love, absolutely love, what I’m doing right now. And who knows, if I’m still loving it in eight years, or whatever, I could still go race NASCAR. Your life changes. Who knows? I could be in NASCAR until I’m 50.”
Larson is the definition of a racer who wants to win in all the disciplines, and to call him not loyal to NASCAR is disrespectful. He gives the same love and dedication to racing in all series. In the meantime, there are a lot of NASCAR racers there who are entirely focused on just NASCAR and this comparison might be a reason for some fans having this thought.
