Hendrick Motorsports Kyle Larson and team are not among the crews eager to race in the Atlanta Cup. The major reason for the No:5 team’s aversion to the track is the poor outing they had at the way last season. Larson and crew’s hard work didn’t pay off, as they couldn’t survive the chaos of the short-superspeedway track.
Superspeedways, where drivers’ luck and skill are demanded simultaneously, have never been a strength of Larson. He is among the elite drivers who haven’t won the Daytona 500 despite securing the Cup championship. Larson hopes to end the poor streak going to the race on Sunday and at least finish the race in a respectful position.
While talking about the coming race, Kyle Larson’s crew chief Cliff Daniels admitted that it would be odd to say that his crew is looking forward to the race. He said that the track’s uniqueness is the reason for their struggles. The championship-winning crew chief added that he is still looking forward to the event and finally securing a good finish.
“For the No. 5 team in Atlanta, it’s odd to say that we are looking forward to it because unfortunately in the Next Gen era, I don’t know that we’ve actually finished a race (there). The track layout is a lot different, and the package that we have is definitely tough and challenging,” Daniels said.
“We are looking forward to going to Atlanta. It’s going to be a tough and hot race. In the middle of the summer, it will be cool to have a night race. Hopefully we can stay out of trouble and have a good enough car to get up front by the end,” Daniels added.

Kyle Larson wants to secure a strong finish in Peach State
The 2021 Cup champion admitted that drafting tracks have never been his strength, and despite having strong starts and good pace, his races have often ended midway due to incidents. He wishes to secure a good finish using the momentum he gained from back-to-back top-10 finishes in the last couple of races.
“We have some good momentum behind our team right now, with four top-10 finishes. I look forward to another HENDRICKCARS.COM home race in Atlanta. It would be great to secure a strong finish in the Peach State,” Larson said.
While finishing the race is the priority for Larson, for his teammates Chase Elliott and Alex Bowman, it will be about securing the win. Elliott, who has missed seven races this season, hopes to secure a win on a track he won last season. Though Bowman can still make it to a playoff with his superior consistency, securing a win can do a world of good.
