Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Martin Truex Jr. weighed in on winning a possible second career Cup title with the Toyota giants.  He revealed how he would feel if he won the second title. Truex Jr. will become the third active Cup driver to win more than one title if he can win the title this year in the No:19 Toyota Camry.

Truex Jr. won his first and only title in 2017 with Furniture Raw Motorsports. After finishing P2 in the championship in 2018, he left FRM to join Joe Gibbs Racing. He has come close to winning the second title multiple times with TRD, but every time, it ended with heartbreaks. Truex Jr. finished P2 in the championship twice since joining the No:19 team.

2023 marked his fifth season of chasing the title. He had a strong start ahead of the post-season with a regular season title win. After a slump in performance at R-16 and R-12, he is focused on getting the momentum back. After winning the pole for the Homestead playoff race, when asked how he would feel if he won a title again, he candidly admitted that it would be a testament to their hard work.

It’d mean everything. It’d make me and the entire team very happy. Put a stamp on all of the hard work we’ve put in since the start of the Next Gen car last year…Winning it all again would be everything would make me feel better about doing another season.

Martin Truex Jr. reveals how he keeps his motivation up after heartbreaks

I think competing for championships and having the ability to keeps you going. In years past, when we’ve had heartbreakers, we’ve been right there and had a chance. Whether things went right or not, we still felt like we were a championship team.

Martin Truex Jr. has signed a new contract extension with JGR and will race for the TRD team for at least one more season. He says that coming close to winning the title helps to remain hungry, and he has the same feeling this year and for the coming season as well.

You can’t always control circumstances, and outcomes aren’t always what you want, but feeling that you did everything you could feels a lot better than not even making it. I feel great about where we’re at and feel a lot better about our direction after signing up for another year.
