Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Martin Truex Jr. has pointed out that Toyota teams have a strong chance of winning at Talladega by drafting together compared to Chevy drivers. The Superspeedway demands drivers to draft together to secure a solid finish, and most often, manufacture sides come drafts together till the final laps.

The major disadvantage Toyota has over its rivals, who field the Chevy Camaro ZL1 and Ford Mustangs, is that there are just six Camry on the track. In contrast, the others have a massive number advantage, with Chevy leading the way. What makes the situation more interesting is that five of the sux TRD drivers are fighting for a spot in the last 8.

The 2017 Cup champion believes that TRD can use its number disadvantage. He pointed out that the Chevy team often starts infighting a little early in the final phase of the game. Truex Jr. believes Toyota teams combine three Joe Gibbs Racing cars and two 23XI Racing cars to work more like a simple team. If they can stay together till the end of the race, one of them take home the trophy.

All the drivers, we all work together well and look back on past races and things, so I feel like we have a good group of guys. You know, we’re definitely outnumbered Toyota-wise, and this racing has become manufacturer racing, but at certain times, it works well for us because we’re so committed,” Martin Truex Jr. said, as reported by NASCAR.com.

We’re all on the same team, where other guys are … they might be a Chevrolet, but they might be with different teams or have a beef or something, and when it comes down to the end, they leave each other hanging. So, if we can all make it to the end and be together, we’ll have a really good shot at one of us winning,” he added.

Christopher Bell explains what TRD drivers need to do to win

Christopher Bell is in a comparatively good spot going into the Talladega race. While talking about the race ahead at Talladega, he pointed out that while fighting against each other, they can benefit by pushing each other. He urges the team to work together till the end and benefit from it at the superspeedway.

We all obviously need each other to do good, too. So, while we are competing against each other, the betterment for the whole … all of us are going to benefit from pushing each other and being committed to each other. So instead of bailing on each other and getting away from team racing, we will all benefit if we stay together,” Bell said.

Other than Denny Hamlin, all four TRD drivers must have solid races at Talladega and ROVAL to progress. Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick need to continue their consistent top-10 runs as they are now in the bottom four, while Truex Jr. and Bell need to secure top-10 finishes as well.
