Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Martin Truex Jr. has explained what keeps him motivated to extend his fight for the NASCAR Cup series title over the 18 years. He will mark his 19th Cup season next season as he has signed a year contract extension to drive the No:19 Toyota Camry for one more season and probably win the title with JGR.
When asked what keeps him motivated to still race for the title, he pointed out that being lucky to have great teams that yield great success over the years. He admitted that winning the title in 2017 was more than he expected, and he feels like he can still have the opportunity to win as he says that he is staying here for more.
“I’ve been lucky to have some great teams and a lot of great success, and winning a championship was more than I ever expected when I started doing this. Still feeling like we are capable of doing more, so that’s what I’m still here for more,” Martin Truex Jr., as reported by Speedway Digest.

The impressive team he has makes Martin Truex Jr. hungrier
The JGR driver went on to point out that having the great team he has now, a crew that is capable of fielding cars that can win race every race. He added that having a great team behind him helped him overcome the slumps he had some seasons, and having this support helped him to thrive during the struggles.
“Just having a great team and knowing we can win every weekend keeps me going and keeps me hungry and continuing to work hard to be better every single weekend. It’s a difficult sport, and you can have a bad year one year and then be better the next. You just have to stay focused. I’ve been able to do that and have a good team behind me, so I’m always ready to go to work each week,” the JGR driver said.
The 2023 season has been a massive success for Martin Truex Jr. till the playoffs. He won three races and the regular season championship. But once the post-season started, he has been poor. Truex Jr. clawed his way out of the first two stages playoff with the best finish of P17. He has one win a race or secure top-5 finishes at Miami and Martinsville to secure his spot in the Cup finale.
