The 2017 NASCAR Cup Series champion Martin Truex Jr. hopes to secure his maiden win at the iconic Daytona International Speedway this Saturday. He can win the 2023 regular season title over teammate Denny Hamlin with the victory lane visit. Truex Jr. will also help his TRD teammate Ty Gibbs or Bubba Wallace to make it to the playoffs.

The Joe Gibbs Racing driver has started 34 starts, with his maiden one coming in 2005 with Dale Earnhardt Inc. He has secured five top-10 finishes, three of which were top-five. He has an average finish of 21.3 at the track, leading 144 laps. He won the 2005 Xfinity Serie race at the track and won his second Xfinity title that year.

While talking about his chances this Saturday, he pointed out that it’s been a lot of fun for him to go to track with the confidence that he can win. He said that he hopes to ride on the positive momentum he has backed him and secure the win, as it’s high time for his team to click and remain at their peak form.

I feel like every weekend; we have a shot to win. It’s been a lot of fun to go to the racetrack and have that confidence. Hopefully, we can keep it going. This is the time of the year when you want to be clicking,” he told the Orlando Sentinel.

The No:19 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota Camry driver pointed out that he has come close to a win at the track, much closer than anyone who has been winless in Daytona. He blamed his bad luck for the poor streak of results in the Florida track.

Despite failing to figure out the formula to a victory at the track, he is excited to tackle the Superspeedway challenge with his new crew chief, James Small, a second time this season when both of them have found what clicks for them, unlike in the season opener. He hopes to make the right decision upfront while in the race lead.

I’ve been closer than anyone that hasn’t won there. It’s been a difficult place for us. We just haven’t figured out a way to make it happen on that last lap or two, excited for another opportunity. I enjoy racing there. I’ve had a lot of bad luck, and then the times where I’ve been upfront and had a shot, I maybe didn’t make the right decisions at the end,” Truex Jr. said.
