2017 NASCAR Cup series champion Martin Truex Jr. has a year to remember in the 2023 season. He was close to calling it quits last year after going winless the whole season, but this season saw the redemption ark of the Joe Gibbs Racing driver. The Toyota racer has scored three race points-paying race wins and the LA Clash this season.

He ended the regular season on a high note by winning the regular season title, holding off a strong fight from his teammate Denny Hamlin. The No:19 Camary driver marches into the playoffs with 15 bonus points, which enables them to afford a couple of bad weekends going deep into the playoffs.

While talking about his victory and plans for the Chase, he pointed out that he feels as good as ever with the strong team he has. He said that his team can win any tracks they can go to and added that playoff tracks are good grounds to fight for them. Truex Jr. said he is optimistic, hungry, and fired up to fight in the last ten races of the season.

I feel as good as ever. I feel like our team is really, really strong. I feel like we can be strong anywhere we go. A lot of the Playoff tracks seem to line up good for us. Always have. We’re optimistic; we’re hungry and excited. Fired up, ready to get going,” Truex Jr. said, as reported by ProTalks.

The veteran went into the Saturday night race hoping to battle it out with his teammate till the finish line and secure the title. But the plans didn’t materialize as Hamlin was collected in the big one. So, for the rest of the race, it was about hanging till the end for the No:19 driver, as he would have won the trophy anyway.

It was a little frustrating to not be able to really race tonight after Denny (Hamlin) kind of got in that situation, and we got the stage win – that was kind of a bummer, but big picture was the right thing to do. We’ve got to put together ten great races like we did in 2017 again,” Martin Trues Jr. said.

Martin Truex Jr. has extended his contract with JGR for one more season and hopes to secure his second career Cup title. The major drawback for his chase is the recent slump he had had in the last ten tracks, such as Darlington, Kansas, and Bristol, but the impressive momentum the team has can help him to tackle the challenges.
