Joe Gibbs Racing has been among the best teams of the 2023 season so far. JGR and Hendrik Motorsports are the two teams that have the best shot at winning the Cup title this season. The Toyota giants charge for the Cup title is led by veteran drivers Martin Truex Jr. and Denny Hamlin. Youngster Christopher Bell also played a significant part.

But this comes with a massive challenge; the battle for the championship is not just with the garage, but it is in their race shop as well. Unlike fighting with rivals, they have to share data and race notes, along with the resources. Truex Jr. pointed out that his plans to tackle the team’s challenges are to race each other hard but fairly.

The 2017 Cup champion pointed out that they don’t hold anything back regarding races in the team meetings till Saturday. Once the teams are on track, it’s every man for himself and his team. He said he has great and professional teammates who race well while working together.

You just go race hard, and obviously fair. We don’t hold anything back as far as meetings and sharing things, but just once you get to the track on Saturdays, it’s every team for itself. I feel like we do a good job working together and keeping it professional and racing well with each other on the racetrack, as well, so it’s nice to have great teammates,” the 2017 Cup champion said, as reported by Speedwaymedia.

The post-season opener was a nightmare for JGR teams. Denny Hamlin, who dominated the first two stages, dropped to the back following a loose rear wheel. Truex Jr. and Bell also suffered the effects of poor pit stops that resulted in them scoring poor finishes. It was disappointing, considering the trio had the momentum coming to the event.

Going into Kansas this Sunday, the team is determined to have a solid day, and he has the track marked as a place where he could shine. He pointed out that running highlights and making bold moves will be vital at the track. The No:19 Camry driver also predicted wild restarts at the track.

You have a big, wide front straightaway that gives you the option to make big bold moves on the restarts where it can get pretty wild there. Kansas is definitely high on my list of places I like to race, and we are hoping for a great weekend there with our Bass Pro Shops Camry,” Truex Jr. said.
