Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Martin Truex Jr. grew up watching his father racing at New Hampshire for wins. This gives the track a special place in his heart and is a track he gives 110 percent every race for the win. The 2017 cup champion has won races in every championship he has raced for at the track excluding the Cup series.

Despite coming close to wins on multiple occasions, Truex Jr. has never closed the deal at the track. He has an average finish of 11.7 from the 29 starts he has made there. He has secured top-five finishes in eight races and top 10s 14 times. He has led a combined 916 Cup race laps at the track, and getting a win there is still one of his biggest dreams.

As his retirement closes, Truex Jr’s shot at winning a race at the track is getting slim. He started last year’s race at the pole and lasted 172 laps. His day ended with a heartbreaking P4 after a poor restart saw him falling to P14 with ion a lap, and there wasn’t enough time for him to get all the way to the front—his charge in the final laps ended at P4.

We decided to get four tires at the end, and we came out in a bad spot and got in a bad spot on the restart and got all bottled up, and we were 14th after the first lap, and we were able to drive back up to fourth. It was a heartbreaker, especially since it’s one I’ve really, really wanted to win for a long time; it’s a special track to me,” the No:19 Camry driver said in a press release.

The TRD driver pointed out that he needs to figure out a way to win a race at the track and is hoping that 2023 will finally be his year. He said, “We’ve led tons of laps there over the years and can’t figure out how to finish the deal, so hoping this is our year… and finally get a Cup win there.”

The track is synonymous with the Truex family’s success in racing. The JGR drivers’ father, Martin Truex Sr., has previously won the K&N Pro Series race here and has valiantly fought for it in the Busch Series, now the NASCAR Xfinity Series. Truex Jr. has a solid lower-series career at the track makes his chase for the win special.

I think, for me, the coolest part of Loudon is that I’ve been going there for a long time. I got to watch my dad race there when I was growing up in the old Busch North Series. It’s one of those tracks that I really, really want to win in the Cup Series. I’ve won in every other series I’ve raced there,” the JGR driver said.

The 2023 season so far has been solid for Martin Truex Jr. He has won two regular-season races and an exhibition race. He has already secured a playoff spot and is one of the drivers expected to go to the top 4. His incredible consistency and the solid cars JGR is fielding this season are backing his chase for glory.
