NASCAR targeting exhibition races to plunge into the European market

NASCAR in recent years, has amassed a lot of popularity, and it has been made known that the organizers are looking at international options to stage a few events. As things stand, the preferred destination is Europe to hold a few exhibition races of the NASCAR Cup Series. To discuss the same matter, an International Summit has been scheduled to take place in London on the 16th of June.

Michael Lock, who is working on NASCAR’s Garage 56 project for this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, has revealed that NASCAR has set its targets on prioritizing the international development of the sport. The summit that is scheduled to take place on the 16th of June is going to have C-level executives in attendance to discuss the matter.

Michael Lock has further indicated that NASCAR has a plethora of options at its disposal to expand the sport. However, because of the reaction the sport got to its involvement in the historic endurance race, the hierarchy of the sport is more tilted toward expanding the sport in Europe in comparison to the other continents.

At the upcoming London summit, Nascar is going to share the outline for the investment it is going to make and also what its priority is. It could be to stage exhibition Cup Series races in Europe or other parts of the World. These are exciting times for the American sport and its die-hard fans.

Michael Lock is one of the key figures in NASCAR’s potential expansion into Europe. While shedding light on what lies ahead, he added, “I think the expectation in Europe is that it’s a very American race series for America, ovals and stock cars and all of that. But in fact, we now don’t exclusively race on ovals in the US anymore. In fact, we’ve got quite a mixed format of road race courses, short tracks, the Coliseum, the street circuit in Chicago.”

Really, Nascar’s become quite nimble, which opens up opportunities internationally to do things that we never imagined we would do before.” Looking at Lock’s comments, NASCAR seems extremely serious about expanding its operations into Europe and reaping the benefits of bringing something new to the European nations.

Moreover, it has also come to light recently, to increase the sport’s popularity in Europe, Lock’s Garage 56 project will also feature the 2009 Formula 1 World Champion, Jenson Button. The stock car racing sport has decided to expand internationally, and it would be fascinating to see how it would do when it becomes a reality.
