With the Joe Gibbs Racing veteran duo of Martin Truex Jr. and Kyle Busch falling out of contention due to Mechanical failures with their JGR Camry’s to Kevin Harvick’s car catching fire, the first round of the 2022 cup playoff was an eventful affair. In the end, it was Erik Jones’s Day as he got the No:43 car back in victory lane for the first time in 55 years.
With a P33 result, Kevin Harvick is grouped with the other four drivers that didn’t make the cut for the playoff rounds. He was riding among the top five when his car seized on fire and lit ablaze with just 93 laps remaining in the race, putting him in this uncomfortable scenario.
Although the No:4 SHR driver kept driving the vehicle around the circuit in the expectation that the fire would go out, he was compelled to leave the car in the path in order to protect himself. Now that NASCAR had failed to address the safety issues with the Next-Gen car, the veteran had some harsh words for them in his post-race interview.
