NASCAR and its teams and drivers have been amazing so far and they’ve gained many fans all over the world with its new NextGen car that debuted this season it has been all great for the car regarding speed, handling and it also made the sport enticing.
Yet the NextGen car faces only one common problem, the loose tires or tires coming off the vehicle. NASCAR has hosted 11 rounds of Cup, Xfinity, and Truck Series races and there have been numerous loose wheels dangling across the track. During the DuraMAX Drydene 400 at the Dover International Speedway, it occurred twice and Justin Fiedler took to his Twitter to talk about this alarming issue.
“It’s either tight, or its most likely coming off,” says Justin Fiedler when it comes to the wheel
With the increasing number of loose wheels on the track, tire changer Justin Fiedler thought of addressing his viewpoint of this situation through his Twitter handle. He tweeted saying that there’s no doubt in crews struggling with the single lug nut setup and that was seen with No.11 of Denny Hamlin and No.16 of A.J. Allmendinger cars at Dover, he added that with just 11 races into the season, there’s still plenty to learn.
“Obviously, we still continue to be challenged by the one lug setup. We saw that yesterday with the 11 and 16. But we are only 11 races into this deal, and we are learning every week,” tweeted Justin Fiedler.
He made it a thread and his other tweets had more insight on the challenges faced among which is changers, and they need expertise at changing tires to comprehend if the nut is tight. He added that it takes 2.5 seconds to change a tire with a single lug nut while it takes 4.5 seconds for a 5-lug nut stop.
“Right now, we are seeing a few big challenges. The first is changers, I think especially less experienced changers, understanding when a nut is tight, from the time I’m engaged on the nut, to the nut being tight again is about 2.5 seconds. As a comparison, that is probably 2 seconds faster than a 5 lug stop,” added Justin Fiedler.
He ended by saying that it is a learning process, and is getting better by the day, he added that the misconception of what a tight wheel is trapping a lot of unexperienced changers out there as they assume that if the car leaves fine, there’ll be nothing wrong but the wheel is either tight or will come off soon.
“This confusion or misunderstanding of what a tight wheel is, I believe, is what has caught a lot of less experienced changers out, they think it’s good, the car leaves, and now there is no margin for error. It’s either tight, or it’s most likely coming off,” ended Justin Fiedler.
With the experience of changers coming into question, could it also be the equipment that has causality in the case of loose tires?
