Bubba Wallace, the only full-time African American driver in the NASCAR Cup Series grid has had a roller-coaster season so far in 2022, but it is not his fault because he hasn’t yet performed at the level that is required of him with the vehicle that is consistently available to him for the whole season. Two times this season, he has been on the verge of winning, only to have his hopes dashed in the dying seconds. Most of his dominant runs have also been cut short by pit stop mistakes on the part of his crew.

Bubba Wallace has now shown some signs of a comeback following the return of the NASCAR cup series after the Mid-Season break as he topped the time charts in the Ally 400, Nashville cup series race practice session on Monday, as he was the only driver to break the 161mph barrier in a one-hour-long practice run. Following his disappointing end to the last cup race before the break at Sonoma Raceway where he was made to retire on lap 10 following a mechanical failure.

JGR veteran Kyle Busch drove his No:18 Toyota to a P2 finish in the session while Tyler Reddick became the fastest Chevy of the session after he secured a P3 finish in his RCR Chevy Camaro ZL1.  Kyle Larson, the defending winner, came in fourth, ahead of William Byron, who came in fifth. Kurt Busch, a teammate of Bubba Wallace on the 23X1 car, ended the practice in sixth place, and Ryan Blaney, driving the No. 12 Ford for Team Penske Racing, finished in eighth place.

There was some genuine appreciation and at the same time, comments that were in a positive direction came in the way of Bubba Wallace topping the time charts. At the same time as usual to every other Bubba Wallace-related content that was put out by NASCAR or anyone else from the racing community, there was criticism most of them just comments that are ill-intended or out of frustration from the fraction of the NASCAR community that doesn’t appreciate Wallace getting the recognition he is having now from NASCAR.
