Kurt Busch wins the Kansas cup race
The NASCAR cup series hit Kansas Speedway for the 13th round of racing and it produced one of the most chilling races to the finish as 23X1 Racing No:45 Toyota Camry crossed the finished line first securing Kurt Busch his first win in the Next-Gen car ahead of defending champion Kyle Larson at P2 and brother Kyle Busch at P3. Kurt Busch’s teammate Bubba Wallace also secured a respectable P10 finish surviving a pit road penalty.
Kurt Busch was the dominant driver at Kansas as he led 116 laps in the race with the second-most laps led being by Christopher Bell, the pole-sitter, 37 laps. But it’s not all wasn’t that easy for the veteran as after securing a second stage win some pit stop mishaps saw the driver losing the lead to the Kyle’s during the caution and in the final restart with only 23 laps to go Kurt Busch had to start the race at P4.
In the final restart, Kyle Larson got an early lead from Kyle Busch but the older Busch was lurking in the back as he made his advance on younger brother Kyle Busch at lap 237 to take P2. Then Kurt Busch started chasing down the No:5 HMS car and with 8 laps to go he made his move on the champion through the inside on turn 3 securing the and holding on to it for 1.413 seconds to take the win.
This is the 2004 Cup Champion’s 34th career victory and his first in 2022 and the win was more special as it came when he was using Michael Jordon’s new Air Jordon sneaker paint scheme. Now Kurt Busch has come forth acknowledging the parts played by his team on his way back to victory lane.
