Chris Buescher who drives the No.17 Ford Mustang for RFK Racing as a full-time Cup Series contender has unfortunately tested positive for the virus that took a toll on the whole world, the COVID-19 virus, and will be replaced by RFK Racing’s part-time Cup Series driver Zane Smith who also competes full-time in the Camping World Truck Series driving the No.38 Ford F-150 for Front Row Motorsports.

Since 2015, Chris Buescher’s debut year in the Cup Series, he has not missed a single race due to any reason over his 8 years as a full-time racer in the NASCAR Cup Series, his achievements include the 2012 ARCA Menards Series Champion and he also emerged as the 2015 Xfinity Series Champion after finishing 11th at Homestead Miami Speedway but he won the title just by leading in the points table staying ahead of Chase Elliott, Ty Dillon, and Regan Smith.

The 2022 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series title contender Zane Smith will be getting into the No.17 Mustang of Chris Buescher for the first-ever Cup Series race at the World Wide Technology Raceway, Smith stands 3rd in the Truck Series points table and has three victories and five top 10 finishes this season and this season’s Enjoy Illinois 300 will be Smith’s first Cup Series race.

How has the 2022 season played out for Chris Buescher so far?

Chris Buescher started off racing for RFK Racing in 2020 and has been with the team since then, his season started with a victory at the BlueGreen Vacations Duel 2 victory at Daytona International Speedway, and a 16th place finish in the season opener Daytona 500 Cup Series Race followed with a crash into the outside wall with 20 laps to go for the end of Stage 2 at Wise Power 400 at the Auto Club Speedway resulting in a finish at P35.

He then went on to finish with a P18 after starting 27th and ended up gaining nine spots before the checkered flag in the Pennzoil 400 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and secured his first top 10 finish of the season in the Ruoff Mortgage 500 at Phoenix Raceway with his second top 10 finish coming at the Atlanta Motor Speedway and a P21 at Circuit of The Americas, the first road course of the 2022 Cup Series season.

Chris Buescher then gained his three consecutive 15th place finishes at Richmond Raceway followed by the second at Martinsville Speedway and the third P15 at Bristol Motor Speedway and had his second DNF of the season at Talladega Superspeedway and then finished 8th in the DuraMAX Drydene 400 at Dover International Speedway after winning his first career pole position.

He then finished 16th at Darlington Speedway with a P27 at Kansas International Speedway followed by a 14th place finish in the All-Star Open and then a P8 in the Iconic All-Star Race at the Texas Motor Speedway and he had his horrible crash at the historic Coca-Cola 600 after colliding with Daniel Suarez and flipping four times finally landing on his roof and fortunately, he walked out unharmed.

With Chris Buescher standing 21st in the points table, he better up his game if he returns for the Cup Series race at Sonoma Raceway to guarantee himself a playoff spot.
