Rick Hendrick is one of the most accomplished NASCAR team owners of all time. Hendrick Motorsports which started its journey in 1984 with Geoffrey Bodine has won 291 races so far. The Hall of Fame owner is chasing a cup series milestone that many before him didn’t even dream of.
HMS’s four-car line has the opportunity to score the top Chevy team’s 300th cup series win next season. Chase Elliott, Kyle Larson, William Byron, and Alex Bowman have to secure just a combined 9 wins in 2023. HMS scored 11 wins this season, a big fall compared to the 17 they scored in 2021.
The Next-Gen car significantly affected the competitiveness of Rick Hendrick’s team as the constraints set on car development have drastically reduced their dominant pace. The chance of HMS earning the record in 23 will depend upon the performance of all of their drivers as the same level of close competition is expected from the cup teams next year.
Rick Hendrik became an owner with the greatest number of cup race wins last year at Coca-Cola 600. Chase Elliott helped HMS to beat Petty Enterprises previously had the record with 268 cup race wins, which came between 1949 and 2008. The team already crossed the mark of 300 wins in NASCAR’s top three divisions.

How Rick Hendrick drivers performed in 2022
The 2022 season has been disappointing for Rick Hendrick when compared to the high standards the has set for the team. 2020 cup champion Chase Elliott has been the star man for the team. He was the only HMS driver in the championship 4 and has been consistent throughout the season. The regular season champion scored five wins this year.
The 2022 defending champion Kyle Larson had a disappointing year with HMS. Larson who won 11 races last season visited the victory lane just three times this season and failed to make it out of the Round of 12 in the Postseason. The No:5 driver will be hungry for wins in 2023 and HMS’s chase to the record will depend upon his form.
William Byron was one the most impressive driver at the start of the season. He was the first driver to score multiple wins in the Next-Gen car. The inconsistency in the second half of the season reduced his output at the track. He was eliminated in the Round of 8.
Alex Bowman had yet another disappointing year. He was one of the most unfortunate drivers of the season. He was eliminated from the playoff after suffering a concussion in the Texas playoff race. He came back to race for the last time at the season finale in Phoenix.
