Supercar legend Shane van Gisbergen has won the inaugural NASCAR Street Race. The three times Supercars champions debuted on Sunday, starting the race on P3 behind Denny Hamlin and Tyler Reddick. He was able to use his impressive superior Street Racing experience to full use and survive the overtime sprint with Kaulig Racing’s Justin Haley securing P2.
It’s the first-ever win for the No:91 car of Trackhouse Racing and a first-ever back-to-back win for the three years old Chevy team owned by Justin Marks and popstar Pitbul. The Kiwi driver celebrated his win in impressive burnout as he became the first debut Cup race winner since Johnny Rutherford in 1963 and is the seventh driver to do so.
He was P8 with 16 laps left in the race and was over 3 seconds behind race larder Haley. He was able to secure the lead using his fresh tire advantage. He worked his way to the top in restarts after Reddick sent it into the Wall, and Haley’s failure to create a gap up from Chase Elliott at P2 helped him secure the lead with five laps left in another restart.

Had some full sends on some people, the racing was really good, everyone was respectful, it was tough but it was really fun. …I can’t believe it, it’s a dream come true…I’m doing one more year in OZ, then I’d love to come over here!” van Gisbergen said.
