Ross Chastain had no direct hand in the incident that spun William Byron.

Ross Chastain has responded to the “wrecking ball” label given to him by Joe Gibbs Racing driver Christopher Bell. The Trackhouse Racing Chevy diver didn’t hide his frustrations and was critical of the false accusation made by the youngster. Chasatin’s aggression has been a hot topic in the Cup garage, and many of his rivals, including veterans, are calling him out for it.
The incident occurred on the restart with 21 laps left in the race. Bell was positioned upfront alongside William Byron and Chastain. Bell spun Byron as on the turn and blamed it on Chastain, claiming the No:1 didn’t leave him enough space. The No:20 driver later apologized to Byron after finding out there was enough space for him not to ruin the No:24’s day.
Ross Chastain was asked for his reaction to him being called a wrecking ball. He said that Bell is just like every other driver on the grid in criticizing him, saying, “He can say what he wants. Like other guys, he walks right by me. It doesn’t say anything to me, so if he it looks like I touched anybody, and it’s down there on my line,”.
He then claimed that he didn’t even touch the cars of Byron and Bell. Chastain said, “I don’t think that I touched William, so, I don’t think that there was contact with William. I think we gotta say the facts and not opinions. Yeah, I never saw the 24, so I was underneath the 20s, but I didn’t touch the 20, either. So, I mean, if he’s gonna call me a wrecking ball, I just don’t understand,”.

Ross Chastain could have taken the lead if there had been clean air
The No:1 Chevy driver pointed out that the lacking in his car’s performance was due to the presence of dirty air. He said that in such conditions, Bell, Josh Berry, and race winner Kyle Larson had the best cars. But he reckons that if he had more clean air, the Trackhouse could have taken the lead from Hendrick Motorsports.
“We definitely needed more to fight for the lead. For our Jockey Chevy, it was probably more about clean air. There were better cars throughout the race that got cycled back on strategy. For our group – the 5, the 9, the 20 was probably a little better – but out of the Chevys, I thought that in clean air that any of us – the 5, 9 or us – could lead. Hats off to the 5 teams, Kyle, and everyone at HMS. Chevrolet keeps locking down these wins with the Bowtie. We’re proud to be part of it,” Ross Chastin said in his post-race interview.
