Three-time V8 Supercars Champion Shane van Gisbergen is all set to move to the US and pursue a career in NASCAR. He was signed by Trackhouse Racing, which Justin Marks and Pitbull own, as part of a development deal to prepare him for a full-time seat in the foreseeable future. The Kiwi driver will run a part-time schedule next season.

SVG made his grand NASCAR entrance in the inaugural Chicago Street race. He became the first driver in six decades to win a Cup race on the debut weekend. Van Gisbergen’s NASCAR dream was made possible by Project 91 of Trackhouse. It is a project by Ross Chastain’s team to give drivers from other racing series a competitive Cup opportunity.

While discussing his plans for the 2024 season, the three-time Bathurst 1000 winner pointed out that he might race in 20 events next season and will be working hard to get himself acclimatized with the sport. He wants to secure a full-time seat for 2025 after proving his worth next season during the development period.

It sounds like I’m going to be doing a lot of races. When they said that it’s be a part-time schedule – maybe 20 races – you know, it’s more than what we do here full-time….I want to get as much experience as I can and hopefully be in the Cup Series in ‘25.
Van Gisbergen told Speedcafe.

What are the options available for Shane van Gisbergen in 2024?

SVG has started just three races in the NASCAR. Two cup events and one Truck Series race. Just one of those starts was in an oval, and he is yet to experience the might of a Superspeedway. Oval experience will be the primary target of Trackhouse because of this.

His race starts in 2024 and will obviously be divided among the three national series. He can race in the Cup series, driving the No:91 Chevy of Trackhouse. He will probably make double-digit starts in the 2023 Cup series with Road Course, and the Chicago Street race will get the priority.

With Trackhouse’s association with Kaulig Racing, it won’t be hard to get him a handful of starts in the No:10 Chevy. The Niece Motorsports association will be a pathway for him to make the NASCAR Truck Series start.
