NASCAR fans witnessed history in the making on Sundays Cookout south 400 in Darlington as the No: 43 car, which was once driven by the legend himself, Richard Petty, got back to victory lane at the track after 55 long years. Erik Jones drove the No:43 car to a win that marked his maiden win with the team after joining them in 2021.

Erik Jones, whose contract was extended last month, gave the perfect gift back to the Petty GMS Racing team, winning Darlington, where he had his only previous cup win, which came for Joe Gibbs Racing. The Joe Gibbs Racing drivers missing the mark on Sunday allowed the former truck series champion to get back in the victory lane.

Reliability of the Joe Gibbs Racing Totora Camry’s came into question on Sunday as Erick Jones was able to capitalize and take the lead of JGR veterans Kyle Busch and Martin Truex Jr., whom both lost the lead due to mechanical failure.  The pace Erik Jones was able to produce helped him to outrun Denny Hamlin, another JGR driver, in the final laps.

NASCAR twitter had a positive direction to the youngster’s win, and fans were also trolling JGR due to the fact that Erik Jones once used to drive for them. Now he has outraced all three of their playoff contenders in the first round of the post-season with a team that is without a doubt not on par with them. There were also comments aimed at Bubba Wallace, who used to drive the same car and failed to register a win in it.
