“There are gonna be more than 16 this year,” Joey Logano disagrees with teammate Ryan Blaney over new cup race winners to come this season
Joey Logano(L) and Ryan Blaney(R)
Joey Logano who drives the No.22 Ford Mustang for Team Penske as a full-time contender in the Cup Series and competes as a part-time in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driving the No.54 Ford F-150 for David Gilliland Racing and it doesn’t seem to occur to him that NASCAR will witness 16 unique winners in the events left for this season.
He has also shared his thoughts on what could potentially go wrong or not for the race and as an initiation of NASCAR Salutes for the Memorial Day Weekend he will be paying his respects to U.S. Army Sergeant Joel Amos House who gave his life while fighting in Iraq. He has had a pretty decent season so far with a victory at Darlington Raceway during the Goodyear 400 after rear-ending and throwing William Byron off balance and has acquired four top 5s and three top 15s throughout the rest of the season and a P4 finish at this year’s All-Star Race at Texas Motor Speedway.
“I think mentally maybe more. Physically, probably no more than last year,” says Joey Logano as he assumes the Next-Gen car at Charlotte to be challenging to the minds
Joey Logano responded to the question asked about Ryan Blaney by saying that he has no idea but is sure that it won’t happen and adds that there might be more than that and supports his statement by saying that the Next-Gen car might play a role in deciding the winners but he is also unsure about that.
“I don’t think so. I don’t know, but I don’t think so. There are a lot of different winners and, ‘Oh, there are gonna be more than 16 this year. I guess we have a reason this year to think that it may happen because of the Next-Gen car and that piece is quite a bit different, but I don’t think so. I might be wrong,” said Joey Logano.
He also addressed the influencing factor that the new car might play in draining the drivers both physically and mentally and he feels that the new car will be psychologically challenging and will not be that distinctly exhausting for the physical condition of the drivers.
“I think mentally maybe more. This car doesn’t accept mistakes very well, this thing, you get in there a little too hot and you swap ends pretty quick. You spin out, so I think you’ve got to keep that in mind. Physically, probably no more than last year, but mentally I think it could be more challenging,” added Joey Logano.
With a 9th place standing and a 23rd place start in tomorrow’s Cup Series race, will he emerge victorious in the historic Coca-Cola 600 event this year?
