“They seem to be having a little more trouble,” NASCAR to investigate Ford exhaust after Darlington fire
Kevin Harvick
NASCAR found itself in the firing range of criticism from the racing community as SHR veteran Kevin Harvick found himself in a misfortunate DNF. The veteran’s car caught on fire mid-race Prompting him to end the race with a disappointing result which puts him below the cut-off to make progress to the next playoff round.
Following the DNF, Kevin Harvick was one of the four drivers who made it to the next round. The veteran had some harsh words for NASCAR on the Next-Generation car, saying, “ I’m sure it’s just the crappy parts on the race car like we’ve seen so many times. We haven’t fixed anything. It’s kind of like the safety stuff,”.
Now NASCAR senior VP Scott miller has come forth expressing the organization’s plan to address the problem at hand as he points out that the Ford cars seem to be struggling more with the cars catching on fire they are planning to investigate the car’s exhaust.

Scott Miller acknowledges that the organization is digging into the root of the fire as the NASCAR R&D center is already working on the car to identify the issues. He added that they are not sure whether it is a rubber that got into the rocker box that caused the fire on something else but they are debriefing it all.
“We’re certainly digging into the cause. We have cars down there this morning [at the R&D Center] looking for any signs that may have triggered that, and we have done so all year. There’s a lot of rubber at Darlington; the cheese grater that we’ve always talked about. We’re not certain if rubber getting into the rocker box was the problem or not, but we’re debriefing it all,” Scott Miller said.
The NASCAR senior official went on to say that the car catching on fire is unacceptable by any standards and is working on solutions that stop another such incident being triggered. He added that they are looking into exhaust of all cars especially the fiord one as they seems to have more struggles.
“It’s unacceptable for the cars to catch on fire, and we’ve been working on different solutions for different things along the way that seems to be the trigger. Obviously, we still have work to do. We’re looking at clearances … particularly the Ford exhaust, because they seem to be having a little more trouble with this than the others. So there’s a lot of work and collaboration within the industry to get to the bottom of it. And we have to get to the bottom of it quick, obviously,” Scott Miller added.
