‘This car is worse in traffic…,’ JGR veteran Kyle Busch lists out his ‘frustration and surprises’ on the Next-Gen car’s performance so far in 2022

NASCAR introduced the revolutionary Next-Gen car to its grid at the beginning of 2022 as the project was implemented with multiple objectives including getting the field closer together, more safety features for the drivers, and making the parts more assessable for the all the team which can enforce some kind of clarity on the grid. The cars have been impressive in multiple dimensions this season at the same time and also have been disappointing in certain situations.
The Next-Gen cars have so far produced mixed reactions from fans with the positive reviews having a slight majority but it doesn’t mean that there aren’t any negative ones. NASCAR deserves some appreciation for getting the field closer in terms of competitiveness but the lack of clear-cut success other than the occasional front raw run from the small teams raises questions about the sustainability of the pan and the aerodynamic, traffic has also been some constraints drivers had to face this season.
Joe Gibbs Racing No:18 Toyota Camry Driver Kyle Busch has been having a good season as always as the veteran has definitely got the feels right for the Next-Gen car. Though impressive Busch is yet to get a convincing win with his new generation car as his only win so far this season came in the Bristol Dirt race after the leaders crashed each other out. Now Kyle Busch has come out ahead of the inaugural Gateway cup race this weekend to discuss the frustration and surprises he feels about the new car.
Find out what Kyle Busch said
Kyle Busch acknowledged that passing and traffic have been the traffic and passing as he finds the car to be worse in traffic than the previous cars. He added that the underbody stuff of the car is not what he expected it to be but said that he finds driving the car fun. Kyle Busch pointed out that the pleasant part of racing in Next-Gen cars is driving by themselves full of air and said that the new car failed to make the car strive in traffic by making it like that. He went on to say that this aspect has been the biggest struggle he and his team is facing and they are clueless about fixing it.
“I’ll start with the biggest frustration. I think passing, traffic. This car is worse in traffic than the previous car. l feel like all of the underbody stuff is not at all what we anticipated it to be. The cars drive fun. They are good. The pleasant part of it is that they drive well when they are by themselves, and they have full air. If what we were striving to do was to better with cars in traffic, we did not do that. That’s kind of what feels like has been the biggest struggle in myself and around my team is some of that, so what do you do to fix that? I don’t know,” Kyle Busch said.
Kyle Busch went on to say that the Martinsville test coming Next-Week or two will be vital if NASCAR takeout the underbodies and try some runs, something he has been politicking for a long time. He pointed out that the move will also benefit the team owners as they will be able to save a lot of money from trashing it and added that he likes to see it happening.
“I think there is a Martinsville test in the next week or two and I’ve been highly politicking to take all of the underbodies off and let us go make a couple of runs with that and see what we can figure out with that. It would also save the team owners a heck of a lot of money if we trashed those components and went on without them from here on it. It wouldn’t hurt my feelings,” Kyle Busch added.
