Kurt Busch has announced his plan to relinquish the medical waiver that was given to him by NASCAR after he was forced out of racing for weeks following the concussion-like symptoms he has been suffering from following the Pocono crash. The decision has stirred up some controversies around the NASCAR community.

The longest-serving active cup racer on the grid decided to renounce his spot as he wanted someone else who was ready and equipped to fight for the championship to have the opportunity he had as he is yet to make a 100% recovery, which can hinder his playoff dreams. Young JGR Xfinity driver Ty Gibbs will remain as his substitute driver of the No:45 car until he makes a comeback.

Going into the regular season finale with just one place left in the playoff, if Kurt was to continue, the fight was among the winless top-ranked drivers Ryan Blaney and Martin Truex Jr., Denny Hamlin’s JGR teammate, along with the drivers who needed to win such as Kurt’s teammate Bubba Wallace and Austin Dillon.

A part of the NASCAR community accused Denny Hamlin and TRD of cratering Kurt Busch’s quit in order to make sure Martin Truex Jr. secures an entry into the playoffs. but now, Denny Hamlin has come up against the conspiracy suggesting that the decision to pull out was taken by Kurt himself and none from the organization has a hand in it.

Denny Hamlin acknowledged that the decision to quit was taken by Kurt Busch himself and the organization had nothing to do with it. He added that the team was very clear and transparent with the veteran as they were ready for Kurt to make a comeback and fight for the race win in t   first play-off round if he had wanted to.

This was a Kurt thing. This was definitely not us by any means. We’ve been very clear and transparent with Kurt that we’re going to support him no matter what. If he wants to stay in there and come in for the last race of the first round, like, let’s go. Let’s go try to win it,” Denny Hamlin said.

Denny Hamlin went on to say that Kurt Busch was convinced that it was best for him to pull out and give the chance or spot to someone else who was set to go for the championship. He added that there is no certainty about Kurt Busch making a comeback and pointed out that every decision regarding the No:45 driver’s future is in the veteran’s hand itself.

“He just felt like this was the best decision for him not to hold somebody else back from going for a championship that he thought had a better chance at it. It’s still unknown whether he will be able to come back. This is all Kurt’s decision, and his future will always be his decision,” Denny Hamlin added.
