Hendrick Motorsport driver Chase Elliott who has 7 road course wins under his belt alongside Truex Jr.’s teammate Kyle Busch will be the driver to watch out for the No:19 Joe Gibbs Racing driver.

The 2022 season so far has been of coming short at the end for Martin Truex Jr. as he is yet t secure a win this season whereas his veteran teammates  Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch have secured their wins already. Truex Jr. so far this season has secured 9 top 10 finishes, of which two of them are top 5 but none of these finishes have been in the top 3 as he failed to make his front runs worthwhile.  Now going into Sonoma, the 2017 Cup Race winner has come forth expressing his thoughts and expectations for his upcoming Sonoma outing.

Martin Truex Jr. acknowledged that he loves going into Sonoma as he loves the race tracks. He went on to list out the challenges for the coming weeks that will be a huge question mark for everyone as the new car, new tires, five gears instead of four, different brakes…etc. Martin Truex jr. added that another big question that will hunt the drivers will be whether the old approach still works there.

“I love going there. I love the racetrack, but this week is a huge question mark for every one new car, new tires, five gears instead of four, different brakes, and different everything. There’s a big question mark of if our old approach will still work there,” Martin Truex Jr. said.

Martin Truex Jr. went on to say that the challenges he might face might not be associated with the way he drives the car as the question marks such as how is the tire going to be, will it fall off, does the conserve tire strategy works or is it going to be hammered down all day…etc. He added that a lot of things are up in the air for the Sunday race and the practice and qualifying session on Saturday will be important to solve those.

“Not just the way I drive the car, but how is the tire going to be and what will the falloff be’? Do you still have to conserve tires or is it just going to be hammered down all day? A lot of things up in the air, but we’re doing everything we can to show up ready to go on Saturday for practice and qualifying and then the race on Sunday,” Martin Truex Jr. added.
