‘This weekend is going to be new for everybody,’ Christopher Bell is ‘excited’ about the Enjoy Illinois 300 at the Gateway

NASCAR Cup Series will host its maiden cup race in Illinois World-Wide Technology Raceway this weekend. The 1.25-mile Gateway track will see the 15th round of cup racing as the races from now is expected to get harder and harder by every track as the fight to secure the limited number of playoff spot begins. The race will also mark the debut of Next-Gen cars in Gateway.
Joe Gibbs Racing has been leading the Toyota Contingent this season by miles as only the 23X1 Racing team which is co-owned by JGR driver Denny Hamlin has secured a win for Toyota other than the 3 wins secured by Hamlin and Kyle Busch. Considering the strong ties among both JGR and 23X1 team it’s no surprise that they are the only winners other than the top guns.
But the fact that when compared to team Hendrick Motorsport which is the leading Chevy car using the team in the Cup the JGR falls behind them in over al performance. The HMS has already won 5 cup races compared to 3 of JGR and all of their drivers have seen the victory lane while only two from JGR have so far done it.
Christopher Bell, the youngest of the JGR drivers is one who is yet to win a race in 2022 though he was able to secure 3 poles so far this season he wasn’t able to convert that to a win. His highest finish so far this season came at COTA in the form of P3 and so far, has secured 7 top 10 finishes this season of which five of them were Top 5 finishes. The problem arises whenever other finish he had this season most of them falls outside the Top 20. Now Bell has come forth to discuss his thoughts on the coming cup race at the Gateway.

Christopher Bell said that since the track is going to be new for every single driver on the grid it is going to be a really interesting race and went on to acknowledge that there will be a lot of shifting that’s going to be happening at the gateway which adds another element of challenges to the drivers as they are not that much keen to have a lot of shifting at the tracks, which isn’t expected in any other tracks on the schedule.
“This weekend is going to be new for everybody and it’s going to be really interesting with these transmissions because we’ve done a lot of shifting at tracks that we didn’t expect to be shifting at and we know that we are going to be shifting at Gateway, so that is going to add another element to the race for sure,” Christopher Bell said.
Christopher Bell went on to say that it’s definitely a unique race track because of the fact that it has 4 turns that are in no way similar to each other and the new pavement that is installed removing the one that was there in Bell’s last outing at gateway makes it more challenging. He went on to say that it will be good to have more practice time to dial in the car to overcome the unknowns of the track.
“It’s definitely a unique race track because turns 1, 2, 3, and 4 are completely different. There is new pavement from the last time I was there, and it will be good to have more time in practice to dial in the car. There are lots of unknowns but I’m excited,” Christopher Bell added.
