“This weekend will be tough I feel like” William Byron hopes to better his New Hampshire track record
William Byron
NASCAR Cup Series driver will hit the New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the 20th round of cup racing, the Ambetter 301. Dubbed the “Magic Mille”, the 1.05 miles track is expected to produce one of the most Competitive cup races of the season as the fight for the remaining playoff spots intensifies and the front runners of the championship are going hard at each other for the regular season championship which can put them in the right spot going forward in the playoff.
The team with the greatest confidence will be Team Chevy since they have won the last two Cup races of the season with such dominance while the other two manufacturers have struggled to provide a close challenge. Hendrick Motorsports, the dominant Chevrolet team for the past two decades, has been their driving force this season as well. They have seven victories to their name thus far, and all of their drivers have qualified for the playoffs.
William Byron who already secured his playoff spot with his two cup race wins coming in Atlanta and Martinsville will be hoping to get his way back to winning as he hasn’t been able to get back to consistently top 10 finishers following his last win. The inconsistency has cost him his chances at the regular season championship so he will be hoping to set himself for the playoff with stage wins and race wins in the coming races.

William Byron acknowledged that he feels like this weekend will be a tough outing for him as the New Hampshire track demands consistent laps after lap from the drivers which according to Byron is something hard to do. He points out the track has been one of his best when he started racing in his early days but coming to the cup series for some reason, he isn’t able to get the success he used to have in the past.
“This weekend will be tough I feel like. I think New Hampshire (Motor Speedway) is a fairly difficult track to get around but also to get around consistently lap after lap. I first started racing. I did really well there and it was one of my best tracks, but for some reason, I haven’t gotten the same results in Cup,” William Byron said.
William Byron said that his main focus for the 2022 season is to get better in the short tracks and the New Hampshire is at the top of the priority list on tracks he wants better himself. He pointed out that his upcoming Xfinity outing on Sunday along with his Slinger Late Model outings two times this weekend will help him to be better prepared for the cup race.
“This year, I wanted to really focus on getting better at the short tracks and New Hampshire (Motor Speedway) was one specifically that I wanted to work on. Between running Slinger (Speedway) on Monday and Tuesday and then being in the Xfinity car on Friday and Saturday this week, I’ll have done quite a bit of preparation for Sunday’s short-track race,” William Byron added.
William Byron who will drive in the Magic Mile Xfinity race with Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s JR Motorsports as their fifth car on the track expects his Xfinity outing to put him in the right rhythm for Sunday’s race as he said that “The extra Laps in general, but especially in the Xfinity Series race, I think will really get me in a good rhythm for the Cup Series race,”.
William Byron’s crew chief Rudy Fugle acknowledged that the New Hampshire Motor Speedway is a track he looks forward to every racing season as it’s a track where he had some good outings, He pointed out that though they failed to put forth a good performance last year at the track he expects to do well this time as he believes strategies will play a major part in the race.
“New Hampshire (Motor Speedway) is a track I look forward to going to every year. It’s a place that has just seemed to click for me from the beginning. Last year’s Cup Series race didn’t go as we planned, but I think we have a better idea of what to expect this time. It’s going to be a strategy-focused race in my opinion,” says Rudy Fugle.
