For over two decades, Kevin Harvick has been one of the big names in the NASCAR Cup Series. At the end of this season, the 2014 Cup Series champion will retire and become a TV analyst for Fox Sports NASCAR coverage. He will also spend more time with his family and help with his son’s career. To honor Harvick’s career and accomplishments, New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS) presented him with a musket.

NHMS executive vice president and general manager David McGrath gave Harvick this custom-made musket handcrafted out of Connecticut. It was designed by Ed Pary of Black Hart Long Arms in Stonington. Kevin Harvick has four wins at NHMS, and his custom-made musket has engravings of his record-tying wins at the Magic Mile. The track is also honoring him by renaming turn 4 to Harvick 4. Ahead of the race, the 47-year-old spoke about why he is good at this track.

Kevin Harvick told the media, “It’s been a good place to race throughout the years. I grew up on a lot of short tracks and flat short tracks out West. And we spend a lot of time at RCR at a lot of flat tracks and always ran good. That carried over to Stewart-Haas Racing and just wound up being one of our really good spots.” The SHR driver feels that “four ones should be 10.” Then again, he said it was the racer’s mentality.

Some comments were, “As long as you can change the 4 to a 5 after tomorrow,” and “Are they going to update it when he wins Sunday?” The fans are excited and looking forward to seeing him race, and they want him to get his fifth win on this track.

Other fans called the musket “badass” and “pretty.” It is safe to say Kevin Harvick is “going out with a bang.” His career will not be forgotten, and his legacy will live on even after he retires. Right now, the fans want to watch him race and enjoy the moment. Take a look at some of the other reactions below.
