The 2023 Sports Emmys for Outstanding Documentary Series were announced on May 23, and the NASCAR nation has something to cheer for. NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace who sports the No:23 23XI Racing Toyota Camry won the award for his Netflix documentary series. It is based on his Cup career and how his voice led to banning Confederate flags from the tracks.
“Race: Bubba Wallace” is an exceptional documentation of the two times Cup race winners’ primary years in the top division of stock car racing. It has six episodes, each covering on and off-track topics and exclusive scenes from his life. It includes interviews with the Wallace family, Cup legend, and his former boss Richard Petty along with Bill Lester, a black NASCAR driver that failed to fill his potential full.
It was created by 300 Studies, Boardwalk Productions, and NASCAR Productions for Netflix. It started streaming before the 2022 season began. Episode one discusses Wallace’s career, Covid-19, and racial injustice in America. Episode 2 discusses his Daytona 500 entry with Petty GMS Racing, while episode 3 discusses racial discrimination in NASCAR.
The fourth episode is about the depression the TRD driver has suffered over the years. Episode 5 discusses the controversial noose incident that redefined his NASCAR career. A noose was found in the garage allocated to Wallace’s team, and the controversy was discussed throughout the US. The last episode is abvolt him embracing his NASCAR Cup challenge.
The 2023 Sports Emmy nomination list was stalked with hit series. Formula 1-themed Drive to Survive was the main competition—services such as Coach Prime about the College football coach Deion Sanders. NFL reality sports documentary Hard Knock’s 17th and East Mississippi Community College Football team’s story Last Chance U were the other nominees.

The 23XI driver is one of the most divisive characters in the Cup garage for more than one reason. So the, mixed reaction to the award was expected. Some fans were happy to see him earn such prestigious honor, while others weren’t. Few trolled the driver. However, some had pretty ill-intentioned comments.
