Randy LaJoie, the NASCAR Xfinity series legend and Cup driver Corey LaJoies father, was inducted into the list of 75 greatest NASCAR drivers ever. Corey LaJoie had the hour of honor of informing his father about the induction. The Spire Motorsports driver broke the news on the recent episode of NASCAR Stalking Pennies, a podcast he hosts.

He handed Randy the custom diecast that is part of the welcome package given to every inductee by NASCAR. An emotional Corey told his father, “You talk about the relationships you’ve made in the sport, people asking about you, people caring about you. They care about you enough to… You know, it’s a broad list of guys. Roots guys, some Late Model guys, Modified guys, all of which are champions. I’m proud of you for making that list,”.

Randy LaJoie joins Tony Stewart, Kasey Kahne, and Mike Stefanik’s new 25 list. He started his NASCAR career in 1983, NASCAR North Tour, and after just two years, he won the championship. He made his Cup series debut in 1985 in Atlanta after multiple failed attempts to qualify for the Daytona 500. He had to wait till 1995 to make a significant number of starts a season in the Cup series, and that yaer also marked his first Daytona 500 start. Unfortunately, it was his last.  He scored 3 top 10s from 44 races over 12 seasons.

LaJoie’s major NASCAR exploits came in the Xfinity series. He ran 8 full-time seasons in the second-tier series and won two championships. He was the first driver in the series to win back-to-back titles. From the 350 Xfinity starts spanning over 19 years, he secured 15 wins, 118 top 10s, and 9 poles. He has also made 7 Truck series starts that yielded 1 top-10 finish. He has also won a race in IROC.

Fans had a mixed reaction to the induction to the greatest-ever list. Some were pleased with induction as they claimed that the credit e deserved for the Xfinity series exploits was due.  At the same time, another fraction of fans wasn’t happy and pointed out that the legendary driver never made it to the premier division, hence isn’t worthy of the induction.
