Ty Gibbs’s father and Joe Gibbs Racing co-owner, Coy Gibbs, passed away at age 49. Ty Gibbs gave his father the perfect gift on Saturday by winning the Xfinity Series title. He must have been proud of his son for the glory he brought to the Gibbs family.
Joe Gibbs Racing announced the sad News via their social media handles. “It is with great sorrow that Joe Gibbs Racing confirms that Coy Gibbs (co-owner) went to be with the Lord in his sleep last night. The family appreciates all the thoughts and prayers and asks for privacy now,” JGR Tweeted.
Coy Gibbs was out of words after his son’s championship Triumph and was quick to acknowledge how proud he was of him. Coy Gibbs said on Saturday, “I think he’s got skills, and he’s determined. It made me proud. I think it made my wife — we were both proud just because he hammered down and did his job. If he wants to do this for a living, he will learn how to do that,”.
Ty Gibbs, who was supposed to drive the No:23 car in the cup finale, was quickly replaced by Daniel Hemric. The TRD team cited Ty Gibbs’s absence as a family emergency.

NASCAR CEO Jim France released a statement after breaking the news and expressed the organization’s condolences. “We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of Coy Gibbs. On behalf of the France Family and all of NASCAR, I extend my deepest condolences to Joe, Pat, Heather, the Gibbs family, and everyone at Joe Gibbs Racing on the loss of Coy, a true friend and racer,”,
A long-time JGR sponsor M&M released a statement expressing their condolences as well. “Everyone at Mars is devastated to hear of the passing of Coy Gibbs. Our thoughts are with Coach, the Gibbs family, and the entire JGR organization during this difficult time,”.
Another sponsor, FedEx, released a statement on their partners death. , “Our hearts are with Joe Gibbs and his entire family as they mourn the loss of Coy Gibbs, Joe’s son and Joe Gibbs Racing COO. We continue to pray for comfort for all those who knew and loved Coy,”.
