The two shocking driver signings of the 2022 season were associated with Richard Childress Racing. Chevy lost one of their hottest prodigies, Tyler Reddick, to the Toyota team 23X1 Racing. But RCR had their revenge as they reeled in the best Toyota driver of all time, Kyle Busch, as the replacement.

Reddick was supposed to join 23X1 at the end of 2023 after his contract with RCR ran out. But both parties were forced to rethink their decision after Kyle Busch was ruled out midway through the season due to a concussion. The veteran will only drive part-time next season for Michael Jordan’s team. Richard Childress signed Busch as a direct replacement for Reddic. The No:8 crew was assigned to him even before 23X1 rescheduled its 2024 plans to next season.

Busch had a warm welcome to RCR, and the veteran was handed some exclusive treatment, something Reddick had never even dreamed of in his three years with them.  Reddick was the guest in the “Door Bumper Clear podcast,” co-hosted by his teammate Bubba Wallace’s spotter Freddie Kraft. The new No:45 driver revealed his jealousy of Busch’s treatment at RCR.

When you look at it, I guess the only thing that I think is kind of funny is I saw that they changed the font of the eight. I never really asked for it, but I didn’t think it was on the table when I was there. I’m kind of jealous of it,” Tyler Reddick said.

Tyler Reddick joined RCR after back-to-back Xfinity series titles in 2020. Though he was consistent in the first two years, a first cup race win alluded him in 2020 and 2021. But 2022 was the breakout season for Reddick as he secured three wins with the No:8 team. Reddick, in the podcast, claimed that he had left the team in a better position for Busch to succeed.

Kyle certainly is a driver that hasn’t gone over the hump yet. He’s still in his prime. I was a part of RCR’s journey for a number of years and trying to go in the right direction, and certainly, I feel like I left RCR better than I found it,” Tyler Reddick said.

Reddick added that the No:8 crew has the chance to write a new story with Busch. He said, “I feel like him and all my guys that were my guys for three or four years will have a great opportunity in front of themselves to further their own story but Kyle’s as well,”.
