For every track worker assigned to attend to drivers straight after they crash out, it’s normal to witness nervous breakdowns and angry rants from the athletes. In certain situations, the workers will be at the receiving end of such rants. The NASCAR Cup race at Pocono witnessed some high-octane moments, and the track crew was in for a handful.

The first incident of Sunday was something the workers might not want to happen as defending champion Joey Logano went on an angry rant at himself and workers after a stage two crash. Logano, who won stage 1 of the race, spun on lap 36 of the race. The workers had to tow his Ford Mustang back t the pit for repairs.

After the spin, the No:22 driver failed to refire the car and drive it as all four of his tires were punctured. He then asked the workers to push his cars to the garage, which didn’t happen as the car got stuck. Then they used the tow truck to transport his car to the garage with the driver inside the car. The communication between the drivers and track crew featured some colorful language.

What’s the f****** truck doing? What’s the truck? Who the f*** is that? Come here!” Logano vented and asked the crew membrane by to come to him. When he asked what the driver wanted, Logano asked them to push the car, and they said they were doing it. Logano then asked them to “Come here. Come here. I can’t drive it. I need a tow truck. Tow me in. Pick it up!”

Goddamn it! Stupid sons of b******!” the frustrated driver vented at himself after ending up in such a position amidst a good start. “We’re going to hook you from the rear and take you to pit road,” a worker informed him. “Yeah, that’s what I’ve been asking for,” Logano replied. He went on repeating the rant at himself, “God. Stupid sons of b******.”

Joey Logano was critical of NASCAR’s towing operation

The defending NASCAR Cup Series champions crew was able to fix the car and get it back dashing, but they were forced to retire soon after. The stage one winner potentially had a car capable of at least getting into the top 5 and finished the race at P35.

He pointed out that his Mustang suffered underbody images returning to the pits behind the tow truck. Logano also lamented the bumpy ride he had inside the car. He said the whole process is boring to all parties involved and causes more damage than good.

To fix this issue, Logano proposed equipping the tow trucks with tires which they could use to change punctured tires. The drivers can then get the car back to the pits, which will cause less damage to the car and reduce the woes of the mechanics.

It’s stupid. It’s just really dumb that we can’t just put four tires on a truck. I saw a whole bunch of them earlier today. I did something for Verizon, and I saw at least 25 trucks. If we can put four tires on one of them with a jack and an impact that can just change the tires and let us come back, instead of dragging the car two miles around the racetrack, it’s just stupid,” Logano said after the race.
