‘We backed into that one,’ Kyle Busch steals the win at Bristol as race leaders Tyler Reddick and Chase Briscoe crash out
Kyle Busch wins the Food City Dirt Race at Bristol Motor Speedway
Kyle Busch found himself at the right place at the right time to secure his first win of the 2022 season as the 2-times Cup Series champion stole the win from crashed race leaders Tyler Reddick and Chase Briscoe to win the Food City Dirt Race.
Tyler Reddick leads the pack for a whole 99 laps ahead of Chase Briscoe who leads the second highest 56 laps but both front runners couldn’t make their efforts count for a win as they made a contact on turn 4 of the last lap which spun each other out and Kyle Busch who was at P3, in his Joe Gibbs Racing No:18 Toyota Camry didn’t waste any second as he hit on the gas to pass the leaders who were trying to get back to the race.
For most of the second half, Kyle Busch was busy holding off fellow veteran Joey Logano from passing them at the same time trying to close his gap on Tyler Reddick ahead. But he wasn’t able to get closer enough to Reddick to make a move until he spun. This is the 60th Cup Victory for Kyle Busch and his 18th consecutive season with at least a win.
Reacting to his win at the post-race interview Kye Busch said “We got one, you know? It doesn’t matter how you get them, it’s all about getting them. I mean, man, I feel like Dale Earnhardt Sr. right now. This is awesome. I didn’t do anything,”.

Kyle Busch acknowledged that he backed into the win and added it feels good a win a race after a long time. He went on to say that the win is a testament to the commitment put in by his team. Kyle Busch added that the rain was the major constraint for him at Bristol as he lost valuable laps to get his car to refire.
“Yeah, we backed into that one didn’t we. Sure, feels good just to get a win. It’s been a little bit of a long time here, but overall, just a great day. Really appreciate it – just proud of the guys. They work hard. We all work hard. We all work way too hard. There are not a lot of rewards in the sport except winning. You could come home with a second-place day and not get everything that you wanted from the day and from what you put into it. It’s always good when you win,” Kyle Busch said.
‘It was awesome to keep pace with those two. I don’t know why our car would not refire after the rain both times I was leading on the first big rain delay coming back and I fell to eighth and I was able to drive back through on the long run and get back into position. Then on that once again, same thing, and I fell off and couldn’t hang. It got me about 20 laps to get going, but overall, just great to get back in victory lane,” Kyle Busch added.
