NASCAR cup series Road Course Race at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway turns out to be a  crazy affair as a wild overtime finish saw a pole sitter Tyler Reddick securing his second win, and his second road course win, of cup career and 2022 season. Reddick survived a checky Ross Chastain move and the final restart to get his No:8 RCR Camaro ZL1 in the victory lane.

Ross Chastain, who finished P2 at the end of the race later got reassigned to to P27 as he secured the spot in the final restart by taking a shot cut in turn one after going too wide on outside. The final normal time restart on lap 78 prompted the race to go to overtime as drivers went five wide in the start which finally ended in a crash between Erick Jones and Austin Dillon on turn three.

Just like the overtime restart Tyler Reddick dominated most of the race which saw 7 drivers inheriting the lead 9 different times with Reddick being at the top 3 different times leading a total of 38 laps. The Richard Childress Racing driver had the fastest lap, best driver rating, and best average position in the race which showcases how dominant was in his win at Indy.

Tyler Reddick talking about Ross Chastain taking a lead from him using the access road on turn 1, that he was in disbelief and was waiting to see whether Chastain get penalized as he didn’t wanted to make the No:1 cars day worse by taking the lead moving him out of the way. He added that he is happy that Chastain’s move got penalized, though it was a clever move from him, otherwise he would have been really pissed at the end.

I couldn’t believe he got ahead of me. I was kind of waiting to see if he was going to have a penalty because I didn’t want to move him out of the way and make his race worse than it was. Yeah, I was really surprised by that; but hey, we made it work. Hats off to Ross (Chastain) for trying to do that, but really glad it didn’t end up working out because I’d have been pretty pissed off,” Tyler Reddick said.

Tyler Reddick when asked about the importance of his win in line with his announced move to 23X1 Racing in 2024, saying the team already proved they are capable of wins in road courses in Road America and for their Indy outing there weren’t any specific changes made to the car as they just kept working hard to get the No:8 Chevy to victory lane.

Well, we just know what we’re capable of, and we did that at Road America. Certainly, it was a little bump in the road, but we went out and won a race fair and square a couple of weeks ago. And if we change nothing, we keep working really, really hard, we find a way back to Victory Lane,” Tyler Reddick added.

Just really glad to be able to do it here in Indianapolis. This is one really special place to race, and really excited to kiss the bricks here in a little bit and really excited we got 3CHI their win in their hometown,” Tyler Reddick explained.
