When you are in the highest of happiness and then find out the reason you rea happy is no longer yours the pain will be tenfold and for Joe Gibbs Racing owner Joe Gibbs, Sunday was the day. Joe Gibbs was on cloud nine as all four of his cars finished inside the top 10 on Sunday with Denny Hamlin taking home the win while Kyle Busch took home the P2, while his grandson made his cup series debut.
Denny Hamlin was stripped of his win and Kyle Busch of his P2 by NASCAR after an infraction was found on the veteran’s duo’s No:11 and No:18 cars. This meant that the race win was awarded to P3 finisher Chase Elliott of HMS while the duo got P35 and 36 finishes respectively. After the assignment of results, Christopher Bell was the highest finishing Camry on the track finishing in P4 while Tyler Reddick and Daniel Suarez earned better finishes.
Reacting to the disappointing result Joe Gibbs acknowledged that they were shocked to learn the news about the infraction in the two cars and they will be reviewing every part of the process that led to the aftermath saying, “We were shocked to learn of the infraction that caused our two cars to fail NASCAR’s post-race technical inspection. We plan to review every part of the process that led to this situation,”.
A day of mixed emotions for Joe Gibbs
As a team owner, Sunday was one of the most disappointing nights in their NASCAR career Gibbs has witnessed two of the greatest drivers of his team missing out on wins and facing disqualification in a time close to a playoff where each and every win from the team has huge significance. But at the same time as Grandfather Sunday proved to be a day to cherish for Gibbs for the rest of his life,
Joe Gibbs Grandson, Ty Gibbs who drives full-time in the Xfinity Series for JGR made his first NASCAR Cup Series Debut as a sudden replacement to No:45, 23X1 Racing driver Kurt Busch. Kurt Bush got the vote of no-confidence from the cup medical team on Sunday following the concussion that he suffered during his crash on Saturday’s qualifying.
Ty Gibbs who already has scored four wins this year in the Xfinity series positioning himself as the front-runner and a definite championship contender made his way to a P18 finish at the end of the race after he few hours in the simulator to prepare himself for his first ever competitive race in the Next-Gen car. He did prove that he has what it takes to be in the Cup Series in the future if given the opportunity.
Ty Gibbs will have to wait a lot more days to make it to his second cup race as he only got the call because of the fact that he was the only feasible option associated with Toyota the TRD had to replace Kurt Busch. And his debut by no means point to him making his way to the cup series Next-Season replacing Kyle Busch, as though the contact situation now seems in a limbo JGR has time to make things possible and the age of Gibbs will surly make JGR gave one more full season, with a couple of Cup entries in 2023 before making the switch.
