JR Motorsports short for Junior Motorsports is a professional stock car racing team that currently competes in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, CARS Tour and the eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series being co-owned by former NASCAR Cup Series driver Dale Earnhardt Jr., his sister Kelley Earnhardt, her spouse who also happens to be a former racer J.W. Miller and Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports who started the team in 2005 and are currently dominating the Xfinity Series with six wins in sixteen races and five coming in the last seven races.

The team runs four full-time racers in the NASCAR Xfinity Series currently including Sam Mayer in the No.1, Justin Allgaier in the No.7, Josh Berry in the No.8, Noah Gragson in the No.9 and they also run the No.88 part-time which is driven by Dale Earnhardt Jr. himself along with Miguel Paludo, Chase Elliott, Kyle Larson, and William Byron all being the Chevrolet Camaro and the team now looks forward to extending their operations and take part in the NASCAR Cup Series in the near future.

With JR Motorsports eyeing a NASCAR Cup Series debut, team co-owner Kelley Earnhardt opens up about their plans as she went on and said that they constantly think about it and work on it while also not losing focus on the NASCAR Xfinity Series and that the amount of capital required for entering the Cup Series is their concern and also not to forget sponsorships which involve a major part in the team’s success.

“We’re thinking about it every day, we’re working on it it feels like every other day. We do want to go Cup racing. We believe that that’s a good spot for us, we want to stay in the Xfinity Series, too, so you know, what that looks like is certainly up for grabs. The biggest barrier is that charter cost and just looking at the business model and trying to figure out sponsorship and trying to really make that leap,” said Kelley Earnhardt.

Kelley Earnhardt further went on to say that they are waiting for that sign to just leap into Cup Series racing and are currently exploring the most feasible options for them and are also already working on extending the existing contracts and working with sponsors and they will most likely enter the Cup Series and she confirms that it will not be full-time participation until something miraculous happens and they are currently way beyond their debut in their discussions.

“It’s like, when’s the right time to strike? That’s just really what we’re trying to work through and figure out. Right now, we’re focused on re-signing our guys for Xfinity for next year and re-signing our sponsors, and then if we have the opportunity to do some Cup racing and kind of put our toe in the water and see. I don’t think we’ll be Cup racing full-time for 2023, that’s for certain. Unless something amazing happens but right now our sights are set beyond that,” concluded Kelley Earnhardt.

With Kelley Earnhardt’s JR Motorsports entering the NASCAR Cup Series, it would definitely bring up many opportunities for the young talented drivers who currently compete only in the Xfinity Series.
