On Sunday, the NASCAR Cup garage will tackle the most significant challenge in sports history, according to two times Cup champion Kyle Busch. Cup grid will make its Street Course debut at Chicago Downtown in a temporary 2.2 miles track with 12 sharp corners with the iconic City skyline as the backdrop.

It is expected to be one of the most chaotic races of the 2023 season, with the narrow tracks and a very limited run-off area bearing significant challenges. Changing from concrete pavement to regular pavement during the race will also be a big challenge for the drivers.

Ahead of the Cup race on Sunday, the track will host the remainder of Xfinity Series races, which were abandoned due to bad weather on Saturday.  A little worn-out track before the main race on Sunday will be good for the Cup drivers.

The green flag for the inaugural NASCAR street race will drop at 5:05 p.m. ET after NASCAR decides to postpone the race timing.  It was initially scheduled to be green-flagged at 5:54 p.m. ET.

Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin will start the race on pole Sunday. He is joined by 23XI Racing’s Tyler Reddick and cup debutant Shane van Gisbergen, who drives Trackhouse’s, No:91 Chevy.  JGR’s Christopher Bell and Trackhouse’s Daniel Suarez cap of the top 5.

Drivers to watch out for in Chicago

The front three of Hamlin, Reddick, and van Gisbergen will be the main challengers for the win alongside Bella and Suarez, as the front row starts on a track with limited passing opportunities is important. Empierced campaigners like Michael McDowell and part-time Jenson Button can also be contenders.
