Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin has revealed that he has undergone shoulder surgery recently and will get back to full fitness ahead of the 2024 season. Hamlin finished the 2023 season P5 in the championship as he got eliminated in the R-8 following a poor playoff round, ending yet another championship chase early for him.
According to Joe Gibbs Racing, the procedure was done on Wednesday by Dr. Patrick Connor at Charlotte Surgery Center. The surgery was successful and the 43-year Toyota veteran has till February to fully recover. It might prevent the FedEx-sponsored driver from playing golf, something he really enjoys doing.

Hamlin explained his situation via his podcast Action Detrimental. He pointed out that it is part of the normal maintenance of his body for him. He believes he will be better and ready for the upcoming season. The No:11 Camry driver will be hoping to win the elusive title at least in the 2024 season and end the streak of disappointment.
I’ve got some recovery to do physically. I’ve got to get some stuff fixed. It’s just part of normal maintenance for me on the offseason, like ‘what surgery are we having?’ It’s like pretty on the regular at this point, but once we get that stuff fixed, I think I certainly will be better and ready to get going for 2024.Hamlin said, as reported by NASCAR.com.
HMS’s Chase Elliott also underwent a similar procedure
The 2020 NASCAR Cup Series champion Chase Elliott also revealed this week that he has undergone some surgery as well. Via a video he posted on social media, the fan favorite said that he had surgery on the right shoulder.

The procedure was delayed to the off-season so that he had enough time to recover. The 2023 season has been kind of a nightmare for the NAPA-sponsored driver. He missed out on the playoff for the first time after a disappointing winless run.
The prime reason for him missing out on the playoff was the early season injury. He fractured his tibia after a snowboarding accident ahead of the third race of the season and was sidelined for six races. He also had a one-race suspension for a clash with Denny Hamlin. Going into the 2024 season fully recovered his objective is the title as well.
