Will Chevy teams be allowed to race Camaro in 2024, as GM is set to cease the car’s production?
Camaro will soon join the Lumina, Monte Carlo, Impala, and SS, as Chevy cars previously raced in NASCAR.

General Motors has announced that they will cease the production of the Chevelle Camaro in January 2024. The last current-generation Camaro will roll out from Lansing, Michigan facility. Camaro has played a major role in Chevy’s dominance in NASCAR since it got permission to race back in 2016. Since then, Chevy has won 3 championships, including the record 7th title scored by Jimmie Johnson.
Chevy failed to have the same success they had on track in selling their car in the general market. The sail has witnessed a big drop over the years, and the firm doesn’t expect it to worsen. In 2016 when it was first introduced, Chevy sold 72,705 units; in 2022, the number dropped to 24,652 units.
Chevy has promised replacement or revival of the model. “While we are not announcing an immediate successor today, rest assured, this is,” said Scott Bell, the Chevy VP. It is being reported that the new model of Camaro will be electric, and with NASCAR also focussing on introducing hybrid cars, it’s a move of big significance. But EVs are not a possibility in NASCAR in 2025.
The one thing that concerns fans is the burning question Will Camaros still be allowed to use for racing in NASCAR? According to the regulations, a Car is eligible for racing if the produced vehicle is sold that season. So, HMS and co can still use the car in 2024 or the potential replacement model that GM will introduce.

Camaros has been a force to be reckoned with in 2023
Chevy’s dominance in NASCAR is not breaking news; they are the most accomplished manufacturer in the sport and have always been a championship contender. 2023 is no different, as the non-Chevy teams have scored just one win from 5 races this year. Ford and Toyota struggled to find solid runs at the start of the season till Atlanta, where Fords dominated the whole weekend.
Chevy started the season with an impressive win by Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in Daytona 500. The Cup garage visited Fontana next weekend, which saw Richard Childress Racing’s Kyle Busch scoring an impressive win, the veteran’s first since the move from JGR.
The next two races of the season witnessed the dominance of Hendrick Motorsports, the most dominant Chevy team of all time. No:24 driver William Byron visited the victory lane twice in the Camaro with his overtime magic. The Chevy garage is determined to win the championship in 2023 after 22 slipup, and it will be if they introduce a new model for 2024.
