Willaim Byron alongside his three Hendrick Motorsports teammates will hit the Kansas Speedway for the second round of cup series playoffs and will be hoping to secure top finishes in Toyota’s backyard that can assure their patience ahead to the next rounds. The HMS contingent will be hoping to get over the poor set of results they had last week at Darlington.

With a P8 finish last weekend Willaim Byron showed solid signs of coming back while his senior teammates Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott were struggling. The top 10 finish was his first in the last 10 rounds of racing and will be hoping to continue the top form in the upcoming weekend in Kansas, a track that worries the youngster.

William Byron acknowledged that the Kansas speedway is the track that worries him the most. He went on to explain his point by saying that he has helpful notes from earlier races in the tracks other than Talledega or ROVAL and his early exit from the race last time around means Kansas is also part of the list.

Honestly, Kansas (Speedway) might be the one track in the playoffs that I’m the most worried about. I feel like we know what to expect at places like Talladega (Superspeedway) or the (Charlotte Motor Speedway) ROVAL and other tracks we have already raced at this year so we have notes. We raced at Kansas in May and had speed, led laps early, and then had a flat tire that damaged the underneath of the car,”  William Byron said.

William Byron went on to say that though they were able to keep the car going last time after dropping the pace following the flat tire and subsequent damage it wasn’t enough to have good notes that are their own. He added that he isn’t worried too much about it as he has his teammate’s notes and has good recent history there.

We kept going but the car never handled the same. That means we don’t have our own notes on how we expect the Next Gen car to handle throughout the run, etc. The good thing is we can lean on our teammates some and use our past mile-and-a-half notes as well. The good news is I like racing at Kansas, and it’s a place that both Rudy (Fugle) and I seem to have taken to really well,” William Byron added.

William Byron ended by saying that he hopes to have another solid round od racing such as he did last Sunday on Darlington at Kansas “Hopefully, we can do what we did at Darlington (Raceway) last week, put together a solid points day, and be there at the end to possibly lock ourselves into the next round,”.
