William Byron will start alongside Christopher Bell, at P2, in Homestead this Sunday. It’s his 8th cup pole and the first pole of the season. The pole will be crucial for him on Sunday. He is fighting for the three reaming spots in the Championship 4 race. Byron marked the fastest lap of 166.389 mph during the qualifying session.
Byron is joined in the top five by teammates Chase Elliott at P3 and Kyle Larson at P5. John Hunter Nemechek, who replaced suspended Bubba Wallace in the No:45 car will start the race at P4. Surprisingly all five of the remianing playoff drivers will start the race outside the top 10.
Ryan Blaney and Denny Hamlin will start alongside each other at P13 and P14. Last week’s race winner Joey Logano will start the race at P15. Ross Chastain is the worst-placed contender on Sunday as he will start at P20 one spot behind cup chaser Chase Briscoe at P19.
William Byron is ecstatic about his first pole win

William Byron said that it’s a super cool experience to win the pole. He pointed out that his No:24 crew has done a great job in the last few weeks to help him succeed in the qualifying. Byron has struggled in the qualifying throughout the season, especially in the summer.
“It’s super cool. These guys have done a good job in qualifying trim the last few weeks and building on it. It was definitely a struggle in the summertime for us to qualify well, so we wanted to work on that,” William Byron said.
William Byron pointed out that it’s good to have a qualifying burden on his back. He said, “We’ve gotten poles in the past and wanted to keep that streak going; that was kind of the running joke with us. It’s good to get one this year and get the monkey off our back in that sense. Hopefully, it translates,”.
William Byron and Chase Elliott are the only remaining championship hopes for HMS. Though Elliott is the clear favorite, the youngster isn’t far behind. It’s the first time Byron has made it to the Round of 8 since he made his cup debut. So, he will be hoping to secure a third consecutive championship for the top Chevy team. He has everything at his disposal to chase that dream.
