“Would be pretty cool for them to have the opportunity to hand over the trophy to me this weekend” Kyle Busch on his return to Pocono
Kyle Busch
Kyle Busch, the No:18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota Camry driver, has been dominating the NASCAR national series for nearly two decades and “M&M” one of the prominent candy-producing companies in the world has had a stake in his success over the years. Kyle Busch and M&M’s 15-year-long partnership has produced some of the iconic NASCAR moments of the 21st century as he has won two championships with them as the sponsor earning him the nickname the “Candyman” in the proses.
The iconic brand will leave Kyle Busch’s side at the end of this season as they have decided to move on from sponsoring the veteran and the biggest parting gift Busch can give them will obviously be the championship, if not he can at least give them a win this weekend at the Pocono Raceway as the race, M&M’S Fan Appreciation 400, is sponsored by the firm. The four wins the two-time champion has on the track are at the right spot as he has been able to secure four wins, including the 2021 race, in his last 10 outings at the track.
Find out what Kyle Busch had to say about the Pocono race
Kyle Busch acknowledged that though Bristol remains his favorite track to race on Pocono Raceway has been a place where he has been able to make some headway recently which has moved it high in the ranking of his favorite tracks. He added that though he started running at the track in 2013 it was after his 2017 win it really came alive for him.
“I get asked a lot what my favorite track is and my answer is usually Bristol, but Pocono is one of those places that has really moved up much higher on that list. It’s always, ‘What have you done for me lately, Pocono has been a really good place for us and a place we started running well starting in 2013, and 2014, but really didn’t see the actual results from that until the 2017 season,” Kyle Busch said.
Kyle Busch went on to say that last year they were able to win the race regardless of the transmission issues they faced as they had a really good pi strategy, which he hopes to have once gained this season. He added that a win here will also be pretty special; for his sponsors, M&M, handing him the trophy.
“We were able to make the pit strategy work last year and had enough fuel to get to the finish line first even though we had transmission issues, so it would be great to be able to go back there with this new car and get back to victory lane with our M&M’S Camry,” says Kyle Busch.
“For all that M&M’s has done for the fans over the years and the cool schemes I’ve been able to drive, it’s also cool to see them sponsor a race and certainly would be pretty cool for them to have the opportunity to hand over the M&M’S Fan Appreciation 400 trophy to me this weekend,” added Kyle Busch.
Kyle Busch pointed out that the track behaves differently every time you make a visit as the bumps and its characteristics change all the time. He points out that the bumps in the turn two are always the culprit in ruining races for the drivers and the severe winter at Pocono can also be a challenge at times.
“Every time you go there, it’s a bit different. The bumps change, the characteristics change, and where the bumps are. Are they getting bigger? Are they getting worse? Are there more? That turn-two tunnel turn is always a culprit for the bumps, and the harsh winters up there really change the racetrack,” Kyle Busch explained.
Kyle Busch pointed out that the wind blowing, in turn, three along with the turn two situation makes the track bit convoluted saying “Then, what happens in turn three, where the wind is blowing and stuff like that, is always kind of a convoluted piece to Pocono, and how you get through turn three versus turn one versus two. There are three distinctly different corners, there are definitely going to be compromised,” Kyle Busch added.
