Dale Earnhardt Sr. is one of the most well-known faces of NASCAR, who played a major role in bringing the sport into mainstream media. His black #3 Chevrolet remains one of the most iconic cars in NASCAR. His seven Cup Series Championships and the title ‘The Intimidator, ’ make him the most decorated NASCAR driver ever.

Recently, WWE star Cody Rhodes revealed that his father, Dusty Rhodes, was a big admirer of Earnhardt Sr. while talking to his son, Dale Earnhardt Jr. He mentioned that his father was a big fan of NASCAR and would watch every race. Impressed by Earnhardt Sr.’s presence, he would often exclaim in between the races about how good his skills were. Rhodes also revealed that his father was distraught upon discovering Earnhardt Sr.’s demise at Daytona.

“My dad sat there, and he watched every race… So he loves your dad. He loved that there was a presence. There’s almost a gimmick here, and then the gimmicks backed up by ‘Oh, he’s that good? Oh my gosh’,” Rhodes told Earnhardt Jr. on his podcast, Dale Jr. Download.

Rhodes also mentioned that while his father was a big fan of Earnhardt Sr., he did not like Jeff Gordon and was “not into” Richard Petty. Moreover, Petty is one of the three drivers who have won seven Cup Series Championships, which includes Dale Earnhardt Sr.

The sudden death of Dale Earnhardt Sr. in 2001 shook the NASCAR community to its core. The incident also propelled the higher-ups to improve safety measures in the sport significantly. Recently, Dale Earnhardt Jr. talked about his experience when he visited the Daytona track just five months after his father’s tragic demise.

Earnhardt Jr. revealed that upon visiting the track, he contemplated his future in NASCAR and told himself not to hate the track. Also, Daytona was one of Earnhardt Sr.’s most loved tracks, which further motivated Earnhardt Jr. to continue racing.

“I just sit there for a minute, just to see how it felt; I think at the moment I thought, I’m gonna keep racing I’m gonna have to keep coming back here. I gotta be okay with this… He wouldn’t hate the race track right? I gotta stay in love with Daytona,” said Earnhardt Jr.
