US Navy Reserves officer and Part-time Xfinity series driver Jesse Iwuji has filed a lawsuit against his team Jesse Iwuji Motorsports sponsors. He is seeking $4.125 million in compensation from Equity Prime Mortgage, one of the team’s sponsors, in 2022.

The team founded by Iwuji and National Football League player Emmitt Smith filed the suit in United States District Court in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The reports suggest that Equity Prime Mortgage was contracted to pay JIM $2.25 million in 2022 and $3.75 million in 2023.

EPM has been struggling financially since September 2022, and when they missed the payment for October, the team sent a notice demanding the payment or contract termination. EPM didn’t respond to the request within the given 30 days.

The team alleges that the firm kept using the Jim logo and brand to promote its services and products. So, JIM, in the suit, is asking for payment of $375,000 due from the 2022 season and seeking the promised $3.75 million for the 2023 season.

JIM ran in all the races this season besides the finale at Phoenix. Owner Jesse Iwuji and Kyle Weatherman were the main drivers for the team in 2022. They ran all 30 races of the season combined. Kaz Grala and Jesse Little started one race each for the chevy team.

Kyle Weatherman, who started 17 races this season, was the team’s best driver in 2022. He scored Jim’s top-10 finish of the season and secured eight top-20 finishes. His top 10 came in New Hampshire Motor speedway.

Jesse Iwuji ran in 12 races this season, and his performance hasn’t been up to the standards of Weatherman. His sole finish inside the top 20 and his best finish of the whole season came at Daytona, where he finished P11. All of his finishes were outside the top 25. He also failed to qualify in two of these races.

Kaz Grala ran at Charlotte Motor Speedway in the No:34 car and finished P35, poor considering the talent the driver possesses. Jesse Little got the chance to drive the No:34 in Phoenix, but he failed to qualify for the race.
