“You are a disgrace to the racing world,” NASCAR Twitter reacts to Bubba Wallace’s multiyear contract extension with 23X1 Racing

It’s hard to argue against the fact Bubba Wallace, if you hate him or love him, has been one of the top cup drivers of the 21st century that has drowned a huge set of fans’ attention to the sport and the culture around it in both positive and negative ways. The sole African American full-time cup racer on the grid has been the driving force of changes in NASCAR and though he has underperformed with the car for sometimes he has been in hot form over the last four race weeks finishing inside the top 10 in all four races.  

Bubba Wallace joined forces with 23X1 Racing owners Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin becoming the flag bearer for their team from the start of the 2021 season and securing the team their first win at Talledega last year. He once again wrote history for the team securing them the first pole win last weekend at Michigan and has been in hot form over the last few weeks leading the team in the absence of teammate Kurt Busch out due to a concussion.

Following the announcement that was made in mid-July announcing the signing of RCR driver Tyler Reddick to 23X1 Racing speculations were coming up saying Bubba might be on his way out as Kurt Busch already had an agreement to drive as long as he wishes to. But the recent contract extension has surely put an end to that talks but sure did start another that is Kurt Busch going to retire from the sport after the concussion he has suffered.

Bubba Wallace’s contract extension had a very much mixed reaction from fans on Twitter which is a similar case to every other announcement or news that comes out on the driver as he is such a divisive figure in NASCAR. There were both strong criticism and appreciation coming the way of the contract renewal while there were also some disturbing comments on the extension.
