On Friday, Rajah Caruth became the third black driver in NASCAR history to win a race. This achievement of the Georgian driver didn’t go unnoticed and was recognized as a monumental moment in the sport’s history. Later, last week’s Atlanta Cup race winner, Daniel Suarez, commended Caruth on his win.
Suarez won his first race at Sonoma in 2022 and could relate to how Caruth feels after his first win in Las Vegas. Both drivers are graduates of the Drive for Diversity project launched by NASCAR in 2004 to attract talent from diverse groups to expand the sport’s perspective. Furthermore, the 32-year-old saw the brilliant maneuvers performed by Caruth, which earned him an appraisal from the Mexican driver.
You have no idea how happy I was for him! He’s a great young man, not just a very talented racing driver but also very dedicated. We get to see each other almost every week, training or doing different things and I like him a lot.
Daniel Suarez said as reported by NASCAR.com.
Suarez is a Mexican driver while Caruth is an African American driver, and both racial groups did not have much representation in the sport. However, with the latest advances, the series has seen much more inclusion and has been a platform for people to showcase their talent.
Daniel Suarez states his goals for the current season
Suarez had won the race on his last outing in Atlanta and is considered a strong contender for the championship. However, the season has just started, and the playoffs are a long way off. Thus, the Mexican has decided to keep his expectations realistic but has a positive mindset revolving around his chances for the title.

I know that to be able to contend for the championship, you have to win three or more races and that’s the goal. The goal is to build a strong season where we have stage points, where we have wins, so that when we get into the playoffs, it’s not just, ‘Oh, we made the playoffs,’ but in a strong fashion. That’s the goal and we’re working hard, everyone at Trackhouse Racing, to be able to deliver that.Daniel Suarez said, as reported by racer.com.
The 32-year-old had a winless 2023 season. On the contrary, Suarez returned to the top step in a photo finish in Atlanta. Suarez in an interview explained that his goal is to win at least three or more races before the onset of the playoffs as he wants to also rack up quite a lot of stage points as well.
The Mexican driver wants to take on the challenge for the title and will be in the front seat. Now, Suarez is ramping up his preparations for the race as he qualified out of the top 10. Therefore, the Mexican will have a long race ahead of himself and will have to make daring moves to climb up the field.
