NASCAR got back at Austin Dillon by stripping him of his automatic playoff entry and deduction s his championship points. RCR was quick to appeal the decision and now the verdict has come. The team is disappointed with the result of the hearing at the National Motorsports Appeals Panel. But they are not ready to give up as they believe they have a strong case and has decided to appeal the decision to the Final Appeal Officer. It’s the last opportunity the Chevy team has to get out of the playoff penalty they have.

Appeal panel asserts Austin Dillon crossed the line at Richmond
The appeal body in the verdict pointed out that Austin Dillon went over the line with his wrecks to win the race. They asserted that drivers have to follow the code of conduct while racing to make sure the championship is valid, hence there isn’t anything wrong with NASCAR’s penalty.
NASCAR represents elite motorsports and, as such, its drivers are expected to demonstrate exemplary conduct if its series’ championships are to be validated. In this case, the ‘line’ was crossed. The National Motorsports Appeals Panel said in a statement.
The decision on the final appeal would have come before the last race of the regular season as teams shouldn’t be put in an uncertain situation over playoff entry. It will be interesting to see if RCR can convince the final appeal officer they have the right to keep the playoff berth.
