Kyle Busch made headlines for renewing his contract with Richard Childress Racing for another season. The 40-year-old will stay at RCR at least till the end of the 2026 campaign. This announcement came despite Busch’s underwhelming start to the current season, where he has failed to match expectations. Nevertheless, team owner Richard Childress has asserted that the NASCAR star still has many more years in the sport.
The two-time Cup Series champion joined RCR in 2023 after a long and successful stint at Joe Gibbs Racing. Though, Kyle Busch is yet to replicate RCR’s golden era with Dale Earnhardt Jr. so far. The extension serves as a symbol of confidence from both parties over their future.
Richard Childress insisted that he saw Busch take another championship victory in the Cup Series, this time with his team. The NASCAR veteran teased fans about future plans, with a lot in store. The NextGen cars are much different than older machinery, with engineering taking a prominent role. As such, Childress’ squad is already working on improving this area for next season.
I still think Kyle will win him a championship, and we’re going to have it at RCR. That’s our plans. We’ve got a lot of new things coming. This car is a lot different. It’s so engineer-driven that we’re stepping our engineering up more.
Richard Childress said, as quoted by Motorsport.com.
The 79-year-old asserted that he has enjoyed working with Kyle Busch over the past two seasons. Richard Childress recognizes that the 40-year-old has not lost his pace even today. So much so, that Childress declared that Busch was going to stay in the Cup Series for much longer than what some people might be thinking.
And I’m excited about the future of where we can go. Watching Kyle race and working with him, it’s been a great pleasure. You know, he’s a champion. Here’s the guy that’s won over 200 NASCAR races. His career is not even close to being over.

Richard Childress admits having ‘questions’ over Kyle Busch
While Kyle Busch is undoubtedly one of the best drivers to compete in NASCAR in recent years, the 40-year-old is not in his prime. The two-time Cup Series champion has failed to take a single victory in over 70 races, marking the longest winless streak of his career. This has raised doubts over Busch’s performance.

Richard Childress admitted that there were questions over Kyle Busch, perhaps hinting at the extension. However, the 79-year-old appreciates Busch’s mentality of hating to lose. Childress claimed that this was similar to his own mindset in NASCAR, making the two an ideal pairing.
Everybody had questions going in. I love a driver that doesn’t like to lose. We’ve worked hard. We’ve got some exciting things coming up. He and I are both alike in one area – that we don’t like to lose. We want to win races.
Richard Childress noted.
Certainly, the NASCAR veteran has shown faith in his star driver despite concerns being raised in recent times.Certainly, Kyle Busch is hungrier than ever to win in NASCAR. The 40-year-old is waiting to finally end his winless run and silence all critics for good. The new RCR contract will give Busch some stability and allow him to focus completely on racing. However, it remains to be seen if things actually improve for one of the most favorite pairings in the field.
