Riley Herbst Blasts Connor Zilisch Despite Instant Apology Over Darlington Crash
23XI Racing’s Riley Herbst and Trackhouse Racing’s Connor Zilisch had a wild beef at Darlington Raceway during Goodyear 400.

The NASCAR Cup Series race on Sunday at Darlington was expected to be a chaotic by many in the racing community and race didn’t disappoint. It featured some wild moments, including the run-in between Chevy youngster Connor Zilisch and Toyota’s Riley Herbst.
In the final stage of the Goodyear 400, 23XI Racing’s Riley Herbst found himself racing Trackhouse Racing’s Connor Zilisch for positions. The No:88 Chevy driver made contact with the No:35 from behind during a questionable move and spun him out.
The racer lost control and went on make contact with the inside wall, which caused significant damage to his car eventually ruining his race. He ranted on the radio about the incident and was told about his Chevy counterpart apologizing.

Riley Herbst wasn’t ready to give the Trackhouse driver a pass and went onto call him out in a profanity laced rant, as he saw the apology as pointless. Connor Zilisch finished the race at P35 while the latter secured a P18 finish.

Connor Zilisch: That’s my fault. Tell the 35 I said sorry. He just got a loose and I was already committed.
Riley Herbst: Tell him to go f**k himself.

The battle between the youngsters wasn’t the only narrative from the race weekend. It also represented the fight between two major beverage giants, as Herbst was sponsored by Monster Energy while Zilisch was sponsored by Red Bull.
Connor Zilisch takes some positive from Darlington race
While it was yet another bad day for Connor Zilisch, there was still some positive. It was evident in his post-race message on X. The youngster asserted that they team is moving in the right direction, despite the finish being outside the top-20.

It was the first time the younger has secured a top 20 finish in a Cup oval race that wasn’t a Superspeedway. Hence it right for him to claim that they are in the right direction. His teammates, Shane van Gisbergen (P14) and Ross Chastain (P16), finishing positions proved it was the best he could have done with the Trackhouse Chevy.
